Well, the Playstation 3 has been out for two months, it’s been in stock, people aren’t buying it…perhaps a price drop would help Sony sell the system?  Well, apparently not.  Yesterday, Jack Tretton of Sony USA stated that the PS3 would be difficult to reduce the price, mainly because of all of the new, expensive technology that’s packed inside of it.  Well…that was Sony’s next big mistake–admitting that there won’t be a price drop anytime soon.

That’s just going to turn more people away from buying it now, and maybe waiting two or three years down the road, when the technology becomes cheaper to manufacture.  If I were Tretton, I probably would have only said something along the lines of “we have no current plans to drop the price of the Playstation 3.”  Admitting that its going to be “difficult” to drop the price just spells out more trouble.

Then, of course, developers are starting to show how hard it is to develop for the system, much like it was hard to develop for the Playstation 2.  Hideo Kojima, mastermind of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, is showing some “serious” interest in developing for both the PC, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii.   “I do have strong interest in creating something for the Xbox 360. In the U.S. and Europe, it is selling, and I think it will sell a lot this year as well. I’m a fan of Gears of War as well, it’s very interesting,” he told GamePro.com in a recent interview.

What could this mean for Sony and Kojima’s relationship?  Could we see Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, on the Xbox 360 rather than the Playstation 3?  Well…don’t count on that happening yet–the game is already getting bigger than the PS3’s 20GB Blu-Ray disc.  But, it’s definitely possible.  I mean, look at Rockstar–they’re not exclusive to Sony anymore, so they can release GTA4 on the Xbox 360.  And they are, too…if you recall.

I’m getting closer and closer to calling the Playstation 3 a complete and total failure…that post may be coming very soon.
