In the theme park world, not too much is happening this year–the Blue Man Group show opens in about a month at Universal Orlando, and aside from that–nothing big is happening. No new attractions (unless you count Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor [MILF] at Magic Kingdom, but I don’t want to count that). In the theme park industry, that can only mean declining attendance numbers all around.

But next year…next year should be amazing…at at least two of Orlando’s area theme park resorts. As I’ve stated in the past, Sea World will be opening their new Aquatica water park. This one looks to be absolutely amazing, with the landscaping that its promising–I can only hope that they deliver as well as they say they will.

At Universal, The Simpsons will open up in the former Back to the Future building, and that’s supposed to be the main draw of the resort next year (unless this Harry Potter rumor really shapes up and gets built within the next year…then Universal will have a record year for sure).

On the West Coast, at Busch Gardens, a mysterious new attraction that is replacing the Python coaster will be opening up, and nobody quite seems to know what’s going to go there…I always envisioned that area becoming a ride somewhat like Disney’s Expedition Everest, where they’d actually theme something properly (I love Busch Gardens, but they’re terrible at theming things), and make it even more worth it than Sheikra was. Oh yeah, speaking of Sheikra, I don’t think I ever expressed that I LOVE the idea of the ride going floorless–that’s going to be amazing when its ready on June 16th of this year. But not enough to bring back old guests for this year.

I really hope that we start seeing some big changes around the area theme parks in the next year…with only a couple rehabs at Disney (Spaceship Earth and Haunted Mansion will be CLOSED all summer long), the Blue Man Group at Universal, and a couple new kiddie rides at Sea World…this summer isn’t going to be too thrilling around here.
